Instruction on bagpipes or drums is provided free to anyone interested in joining the band. You will find your progress much quicker if you know how to read music or have played an instrument or drums before. Lessons typically begin in the fall.

***  Pipers (Due to a large enrollment in August & September we cannot accommodate additional student pipers until Fall of 2023)

Student pipers are responsible for purchasing a practice chanter.   We recommend the Gibson Long Practice Chanter.  Most instructional sheets and music are provided.  If interested, contact the band manager at ppdplattsburgh@gmail.com.

As students progress on the practice chanter, they will receive information about bagpipes, accessories and other equipment.  Selection and purchase of a bagpipe is a personal choice. Band members will advise during this process.

***  Drummers (There are vacancies for drumming students)

This band has three types of drums: snare, tenor and bass. Drums, sticks and mallets are provided by the band. Music and instruction are provided.
